How To Improve Your Writing
It is often thought that you have to be born with the natural gift of writing. This is however not true. The art of writing can be improved by anyone. It’s a matter of practice and it’s a matter of time that you can improve.
There should be no doubt that there are naturally gifted writers. There are some really talented writers of children and classic books. This can be attributed to the fact that they were surrounded by books from their early childhood. Their parents paid particular attention to their reading habits. Therefore as a child they were often surrounded by story books and were often read to as a child. This meant they learnt to read and write faster and were constantly reading that lead to their manifestation of their talent in later years. This suggests that writing skills are not what people are born with but acquired.
Natural and gifted writers leant their skill as a child. Often parents bring books and read bed time stories with them. They are often surrounded by books and as a result they grow up loving books. Nevertheless, it is possible for the rest of us to learn the gift of writing. Here are some tips to improve writing skills.
First thing you need to evaluate your writing skill. Think of a topic you are fond of and then write about it. It doesn’t have to be too long but long enough to get an idea about the topic. After writing it, read what you have written. Secondly give the written document to someone else to read and comment on. Ask them what they felt about the writing, did they understand what they read. If your evaluator says negative things then it is time for you to improve you writing skills. Find a local writing club and join it.
If you are not comfortable in joining a writing club or want to improve a little before joining them. You should start from a dictionary. Take any word from the dictionary and read about any word. Read the meaning of the word, its synonyms (identical meanings) and so on. Then write everything you have read and what you know about the word in your own words. Do it with another word and repeat.
In the meantime, try to read as much as you can. Pick up some classics from the library and read the story. Then write the story and what you think about the story. It will then be a matter of time that you will start to see improvement in your writing.
