How to Make a Change

The saying goes that insanity is doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different outcome.

The hardest part is to figure out what you want that as a different result. Anyone can complain about something they don’t like.

Once you’ve figured out what you want, it’s a simple matter of backwards planning. What skills will get you your outcome? What habits do you need to cultivate?

Pretty much all successful people have certain habits they follow. Unsuccessful people have habits too. The difference is that successful people are deliberate about their habits. They plan their habits by planning their routine. Unsuccessful people get into a routine too but theirs keeps them occupied while never accomplishing any worthy goals.

If you want to change you need a different routine. That’s when you can reasonably expect different results.

What if you wanted to learn a foreign language. How would you do that? You got it, you’d need to deliberately practice. You’d need to schedule some amount of time into your daily routine so that it became a habit and inevitably a skill. Persuading others to change requires you to present a situation where it makes sense for them to do that.

Buying a product or service for the first time is change. They didn’t spend that money that way before. For you to encourage that, you need to show them how they’ll be making a change for the better by doing business with you.

When you cultivate a relationship with your customers so that buying with you becomes a habit, you’ll be well on your way to accomplishing your business goals. Changes takes structure. It’s your habits and deliberate planning for the outcome you want. You need to see the end you want to reach before you’ll be able to achieve it.

What’s your next action step? Create more structure to support the outcomes you want.
