To Do or Not To Do: Cheating on Your Spouse

Many people make the mistake of cheating on their spouse. If you have fallen prey to this, you may be feeling really bad right about now. This is a normal reaction for those people who cheated on their spouse, but still love their spouse in some way. Love is not the issue. The cheating happened because something else came into their lives that influenced them in some way. Sometimes its little-to-no self esteem that causes them to cheat on their spouse.

Sometimes as a couple gets older, one of them begins to feel upset and self-conscious about what their age has done to their bodies. They may not feel as pretty or handsome as they used to.

When someone, especially if it’s a younger someone, of the opposite sex looks at them and finds them attractive, they will be flattered. When being flattered by some attention moves to another stage, it is called cheating. Their self esteem will rise as they are made to feel attractive by someone again.

This isn’t the best manner to address self esteem problems. What you should do is talk to your spouse and tell them your fears and everything that you feel. There is a good chance that they are feeling the same thing you are and if you work together you can rebuild each others confidence.

But if you decide you don’t want to open yourself emotionally to your life long partner and you think cheating is the simpler answer, be prepared for the ensuing battle when your significant other finds out. Not only will you be found out, but you also could lose that one person whom you truly love.

Instead of cheating on your spouse, and if you can not talk to your spouse about your inner issues, you may want to contact a therapist. A therapist can help you to work through your issues in a healthy manner.

And if you think seeing a counselor will help you, you should see if your spouse wants to go too. By doing this, you are giving your spouse the opportunity to share feelings with you without being worried about retribution. A therapist can help both of you work out individual and shared issues.

Choosing to cheat is never the answer to the problems you might face in your marriage. You made a commitment to love and honor your partner when you married. By cheating, you are doing neither. You are cheating your spouse, your lover and even more than that, you are cheating yourself out of a quality relationship.
