10 things not to do in romance fiction (part 1)

A response to www.youtube.com ‘s video on the top ten annoying things writers do. I felt inspired to read an article that I’m writing out loud. This may spawn future videos expounding on some of these subjects. Also, sorry my mic still sucks. I’ll be getting a new one soon. :)

Zane is actually an older common name from the 40′s and the name of one of my favorite male protagonists of all time (from On a Pale Horse). Like anything in life, there’s a balance between too far and not far enough. It’s good to know where that balance is. Thanks!

    I definitely agree!
I tend to give my characters first names that are slightly out of the ordinary(Zane, Tania), with half-way normal last names(Letser, Wilden). That, or I go with stupid names, like my character Olly Oliver.
Pretty awesome, I’m definitely watching the others.

Yeah. I look in baby names books/websites or just google search for names for the specific ethnicity I’m looking for. I love looking for names. And it does add to their personality. :D

I use my D&D (nerd) handbook for fantasy name hunting. I think writers sometimes try too hard or just want a super unique name for their super unique (read: sue) character :D

Personally, name hunting is my favorite part as it adds so much to their personality.

Oh heck yes! That’s exactly what I do as well, especially with ethnic names. Japanese characters of mine tend to have names with lots of meaning like “Hideyoshi” which means ‘first son’

I didn’t get to touch on it here but last names can be pretty ridiculous too.

Good points! Name-hunting is always fun for me when writing, but I think some people have too much fun. I look forward to your next video!

Yes, names can be sometime a little too weird.

People should look at baby name sites to find names with various meanings. Thats how I find my characters names.
