3. It’s a formal paper so you don’t use contractions like “don’t” or “they’re” or “can’t” or “it’s”. You spell out both words.
In a literary essay, there are three things:
1. Never use personal pronouns (I, you, my, etc)2. Always refer to the action in the writing in present tense. (We like to describe things from books as having happened in the past, and use past tense, but that’s only because we READ it in the past. If you opened the book to the same page, the action is always still currently happening – Harry is still fighting against “He Who Shall Not Be Named”… lol so you always keep it in the present tense.
