How to control nerves when speaking in public
www.teachyourkidspublicspeaking.com Many people say that speaking in public is one of the most nerve racking things they have to do. There are a few techniques to help you control your nerves. * Be prepared. Generally speaking you will find the more prepared you are the less nervous you will be. * Have a stretch. Bend forward, backwards, left and right. Stretch your arms. * Do the mouth and lip exercises that I demonstrated in tip number 9. But the most valuable tip I can give is to focus on the audience and not on yourself. If you’re speaking and focusing on * How do I sound? * How do I look? * What are they thinking of me? * How long before I get off? That is when you’ll get nervous If you focus on * Teaching your audience * Entertaining your audience * Inspiring your audience the focus will be on your audience and not on you. As a result your nerves will eventually disappear.

Hehe, you’re still lucky, me and my friend gotta do the WORST presentation in the WHOLE school tomorrow, about Halloween! xDD
Some people got The Gladiators, others about other stuff, but WE got the WORST! xDD
thanks a lot
@smshbros I have that same problem! And I think the reason is that in that particular class you might have all your friends in, or people that like to make fun of presentations. It’s the audience that makes the class nervous to speek in. I’m only in 8th grade though.
Im going to have my Lord of the rings presentation today =( im so nervous… if i say somenthing wrong people will laugh and when they laugh i laugh and then i get a epic fail grade

Thanks for you tips, I just did my presentation hours ago, the only think I still cannot do is to face the audience, so I just focus on my laptop and the slidescreen.
Wow, the focusing on the audience makes total sense! That’s what I think the problem is when I speak in public, I trip on myself when I should be focusing on the audience!
A shot of Canadian Mist will take care of that.
i do to..
lol
i feel relieve if i can get the audience to laugh before i presentate…..just trip over something on your way up and hold a big smile in front of everyone when you get up there or something and say a joke w/ it
im really have a problem with my voice…my voice shakes when i speak in a crowd.
i dunno man i think the only way you can do it is to get used to it. stretching would not help me if i had to do a presentation in front of an auditorium of people, and i will in a month or so.
man, im in an honors english class as a freshman and i have to give a 3 minute openings speech for a debate. Its weird because in most of my classes im comfortable speaking out loud, Im actually kind or outgoing in a few. Its just this class. Maybe its the fact it has no windows or maybe i feel intimidated because there is a lot of smart people in the class. At least i know ill feel really relieved once its over.
migod,i get so nervous and forget all my lines.
