I think the gov. is over-simplifying things a bit here. I’m not a Republican, but I don’t think that they are “afraid of having options” as he suggested.
I think that the real concern with a public option is that it will indeed be cheaper (thanks in part to taxes). And, if it is too cheap, private agencies will not be able to compete. So yes, more choices initially, but what if the competition slowly collapses? I think we can all agree: the more competition, the better off we(consumers) are.

Universal health care is implemented in all industrialized countries, with the exception of the United States. It is also already provided in many developing countries such as India, Peru, Columbia, and even Brazil!
Universal health-care is definitely a positive thing that everyone will eventually realize once the bill is finalized and then signed into law.
