Collecting LEGO Star Wars Playsets May The Force Be With You!
Collecting LEGO Star Wars Playsets can be great fun, and since the series’ launch in 1999, there are a huge amount of sets available to the avid collector. Ranging across the six films and the Clone Wars cartoon spin-off, the sets cover all your favourite characters, ships and locales. Chances are, if it’s in the films, it’s in a box!
The LEGO Star Wars range was the first LEGO line to be produced specifically for a movie franchise. The Danish toy company has since dabbled in spin offs for such franchises as Harry Potter, Spiderman, Batman, Jurassic Park and even Indiana Jones, but the sci-fi range remains the highest grossing one of them all, spanning everything from the lowliest Landspeeder to the mighty Millenium Falcon. With such a popular franchise, you can be sure there’s a lot to get your hands on.
The beauty of Star Wars, as with any LEGO range, is the sheer freedom it gives you to create your own scenarios and build the Star Wars universe in the way you’ve always wanted it. The internet hosts many wondrous creations by avid LEGO Star Wars collectors who’ve taken the spirit and feel of the films and produced amazing models of their own.
If you’re serious about collecting, there are plenty of bargains on the usual auction sites. Look for hapless parents clearing out kids’ toys, blissfully unaware of their value. If you’re looking for the real rarities, the original trilogy X-Wing (since retired and replaced) or any of the Episode One range from the time of the movies’ original launch, often with timely promotional material included.
Many of the minifigures have also been retired and superseded; the original Obi Wan Kenobi and Luke Skywalker, for example, have been replaced with more modern versions, so these originals are a real rarity if you’re serious about collecting.
Also worth checking out are the delightfully addictive LEGO Star Wars videogames, developed by Traveller’s Tales for the Playstation, Wii, Nintendo DS and Microsoft Xbox formats. Allowing players to team up and play the role of virtually anyone from the series, they’re infused with an unmistakably LEGO charm and that one-more-go appeal.
Collecting Star Wars Playsets, whether for the young or the young at heart is a whole lot of fun. Take a trip down memory lane with classic sets and then build your own, any way you choose. Once you grab the whole range there’s no limit to your personal Star Wars universe!
