Learn How To Become A U.N Interpreter

The United Nations Organization commonly abbreviated as the UN is a global body with presence all over the world. For communication to be effective between the UN and its member states, the services of an interpreter are very important. This is because there are plenty of international, national and regional languages in different parts of the world.

The diplomacy and foreign relations department of the UN especially need the services of interpreters and it is very easy to secure a job here if you know how to translate. The UN does not require training in interpretation only. To be considered for employment, you have to show experience coupled with fluency and thorough knowledge.

To work as an interpreter with the UN, you must have undergone training and awarded at least a degree by a recognized university. It is advantageous if you have undergone training in diplomacy, international relations, foreign relations, international law and related courses. You will also have an upper hand if you have specialized in any of the UN official languages. Having a Masters, PhD and other higher qualifications is also likely to boost your chances of securing a job.

You should ensure that you have the experience provided for in the UN interpreters job adverts. You can show experience for example by having worked as an online translator, at lecturers in university or presenting your earlier translation works which must be certified as your true work.

You must have thorough knowledge of the languages you are proficient in. you must prove that you can read, write and speak the languages you can translate to and from fluently. You will be vested with the duties and responsibilities of translating documents as well as one-on-one conversations while working as a UN interpreter.

On being satisfied that you have attained the required minimum qualifications for a UN interpreter, you can send your application to the UN headquarters in the USA. If there is a vacancy, you may be called for an interview immediately the application is received. If there is no vacancy, your application will be saved and you will have called for interview whenever there is an appropriate job opening.
