How to Save Money at the Petrol Bowser
With the cost of gasoline at an record high, it has placed upward pressure on grocery costs anytime it comes to filling up at the bowser. As part of the my own blogging series to inspire you to cut costs, live simply and live a self-sufficient life I’ve picked up some pointers to help you save on your gas expenditures.
1. As the climate begins to heat up and we go to summer time, don’t use the air con. Consider opening your window and suffering with short intervals of being unpleasant.
2. If you own a manual vehicle, put into neutral while sitting in traffic.
3. Roll down hills without accelerating.
4. Accelerate at a moderate pace and don’t floor the accelerator as that uses up significant amounts of petrol.
5. Service your car frequently as recommended by your mechanic to ensure your engine is working efficiently.
6. Don’t use your car as a storage unit. Keep the weight in your vehicle as light as you can.
7. Keeping your car tyres at the optimum pressure will allow you to use less petrol.
8. Think about using your vehicle every second day instead. Use public transport or consider car pooling with someone who lives in your neighborhood. This will halve your petrol costs if you are able to car pool.
9. If your car is running on petrol, consider changing to LPG. Liquefied Petroleum Gas or LPG can be about 50 per cent cheaper than petrol, litre for litre, and is better for the environment. It reduces exhaust emissions, increases the life of your engine and, in some cases, gives you superior performance.
10. If you’re in the market for a new car, do your research on the growing number of hybrid varieties. Some of the smaller cars being produced from Toyota including the Prius are environmentally friendly and will save you money in the long term.
