What is Private Label Rights?
Private label rights products is an integral part of many internet marketers. It has been a driving force behind many online entrepreneurs’ success in the industry. It is easy because these products are created and sold for the purpose of re-branding and reselling to other buyers.
The rights granted to you may vary depending on the original owner and the type of restrictions that have been attached to each product. For example one product may allow you to give it out for free as a bonus while another one may only let you sell. In order to make sure you need to read very well the restrictions page and if you don’t understand anything you need to contact the owner and have things clarified for you. Typically, private label rights allow you to change or modify the content of the product but it doesn’t necessarily give you carte blanche powers to do so. You may be restricted to the areas that you can modify (i.e. add an introduction only).
There are also limitations as to the use of the PLR product especially when it comes to its distribution or resell. Many will allow you to sell the product but those that do will often have restrictions pertaining to the sale. For example you can only sell the product for a set price. That is to say even if you want to sell it for $19 and the restriction is for $27 you have to sell it for $27. Then there is also a certain provision that covers the issue of whether you are allowed to bundle it with other products.
It depends upon the owner of the PLR product if he would allow you to bundle his product or not. Some PLR sellers are also keen about offering their PLR products for membership sites. Certainly, there will be complications. You may be allowed to bundle but not for membership sites etc. Or you can be allowed to sell it but only through direct selling and not through auctions. Sometimes you may think it’s a stupid rule – that you can sell it but you can’t give it away for free or as a bonus. Often the reason for this is to not dilute the PLR product because giving it away will make it seem like it’s cheap.
It is probably based on the same reason that you may not be allowed to use the private label rights content in your website or broken down into articles or used in your mailing or autoresponder series. When you’re planning to buy a PLR product, be sure that you read and understand the restrictions set by its owner or seller. Asking for clarifications would often work rather than you making the wrong assumptions. As a rule of thumb do not assume that because you have those rights you are the owner of the product. Same can be said about the distribution rights. If the private label rights agreement doesn’t specifically say so then chances are it’s not included.
