Even professional speakers have a touch of fear before going on stage. The art of public speaking without fear is knowing how to manage fears that are really just made up in your head. Professional speakers know that the word fear really means: False Evidence Appearing Real. The pictures you have in your head that cause your nervousness, are just your ideas about reality that are not true. Today, I will discuss some of these false realities.

Falsehood 1: You think your audience can sense your nervousness

You think it’s obvious, but it’s not unless you make it obvious. Your audience doesn’t know you’re nervous unless you tell them. A matter of fact, your audience thinks you’re extremely comfortable and courageous because most of them would never consider doing what you’re doing. Keep your head up, smile, and make eye contact throughout the room and everyone will assume you must be comfortable.

False Reality 2: You think you need to have all the answers

Actually, you don’t need to have all the answers. A good technique is to turn a question you don’t know around to your audience. You can say, “That’s a good question.

Has anyone in the audience experienced that before?” You will be surprised to find that someone in the audience knows the answer and will answer the questions for you. This is also a great way to get your audience more involved in your presentation.

False Reality 3: Someone is waiting to heckle you

Unless you are delivering a comedy routine, your audience didn’t come to laugh at you. They came to learn from you. Keep in mind that your audience is on your side. They want you to do well on stage so they can learn something.

The key to being more comfortable on stage is realizing that your audience doesn’t know about your nervousness, no one cares if you have an accent, and the audience does not want to heckle you. Once you internalize these three key facts, it becomes very easy to feel comfortable in front of any size crowd.

Written assignments are the meat of almost every course, and they greatly decide what your grade is going to be. You might feel they take too much of your time and effort too complete, but successful written assignments are the bricks that pave your way in your academic and professional careers. Essays are important for instructors to see how well you have assimilated something, to assess your writing style, to understand your abilities to compare and contrast, and also to evaluate your ability to express an opinion and to draw readers to your corner. As you can see, there are a lot of important factors that influence the grade the tutor gives to you for your written assignment. There are a lot of types of written assignments and as a good student you are supposed to know how to write them all.

Some of the hardest essays to write are those in which you are required to compare and contrast. From the first sight it may seem that it is very easy to compare and contrast things but this really depends on what things are you comparing and contrasting. Comparing something concrete, such as a building or monument, can be hard in itself, but comparing abstract concepts such as philosophical currents, is even more challenging. It is very important to choose objects or events that can be put under the same category at least in one feature out of the others. After all, could you possibly find a way to compare something so different as orange juice and rocky mountains? Of course, this is not the hardest step.

So, what do you do if you feel that none of the matters you are assigned are relevant? A bit of research and assessment go a long way. One of the things you can do is create a chart with the comparable things on top and different features on the side. This way you have a possibility to see in which way they are similar and how they are different. When you are done comparing, you can get started with the process of essay writing. Unless the instructor has provided specific formats, styles and structures to abide to, you can do a little research on those as well. This is an important step, because the layout of your essay will translate to your instructor how smart, educated and resourceful you are, along as giving him an insight to the unique way you process a concept.

What is also very important about essay writing is proofreading and editing. Since you will probably be tired and blind to mistakes after you have just finished writing the essay, it might be a good idea to wait a while before you go back and assess any possible errors, to make sure you can do so with fresh eyes.

After you are satisfied with what you have written you may submit your project and you may be sure that the result is quite possible.

What’s new with the oil price industry?

One of the most thrilling moments for an author is when they are invited to participate in a book signing. Many writers would often consider this as the stamp of approval that they need especially with their first book.

One of the most thrilling moments for an author is when they are invited to participate in a book signing. Many writers would often consider this as the stamp of approval that they need especially with their first book.

To most bookstores, a means of promoting a sense of connectedness with the writing community or increasing foot traffic is a book signing. The idea of providing time, space, and promotion for a book signing is what most bookstore owners are open to.

From the perspective of a writer, this promotion should be like a gold mine. Bookstore owners will often post notices announcing the book signing; many will also provide announcements in regional newspapers that are designed to promote the book signing.

Bring comfortable shoes and your favorite pen. Enjoying your moment in the sun is what you can do then.

However, unless you are a well-established author there are a few things that you should not expect from a book signing.

Having a waiting line. The sale of a significant amount of books. Don’t expect a writer’s cramp.

In fact, the result of a book signing will most likely be a few friends, family, and an assortment of curious others who have come so that you can personally sign their purchased copy of the book.

So why do it if that’s all there is to it?

Since you are primarily a writer, you should then consider yourself as a ‘word farmer.’ This means that a wonderful time to visit with the general public about your book, why you chose to write the book, as well as its subject matter is a book signing and you must be willing to wait and see the seed sprout.

There are many cases in which patrons who do not purchase your book may return to purchase it at a later date thanks to their positive contacts.

A book signing is about good will and being an ambassador for the craft of writing and it isn’t about ‘hawking your wares.’

Keep an eye toward the long-term goals you have in writing and accept the invitation with good grace if you have been invited to participate in a book signing. Don’t make too much fuss over a book signing even though it is simply one small step toward your ultimate destination and you should enjoy this step.

There is some form of ego in every writer, but a book signing isn’t a good place to don a prima donna persona. For the people who came to see you, they wouldn’t want to leave with an author to avoid but rather they would want to leave with something positive to consider.

Learn how you can make an extraordinary income working with staging. It’s so important you choose the right trainer to help you get the most out of start home staging business.

Writers are an interesting breed of humanity - they can make us feel joy, sadness, anger and empathy. Sometimes they can cause us to feel all these emotions simultaneously.

Writers are an interesting breed of humanity – they can make us feel joy, sadness, anger and empathy. Sometimes they can cause us to feel all these emotions simultaneously.

Writing is certainly not a business that makes the average writer rich, yet most writers don’t care, and every day they pour their thoughts upon sheets and sheets of creations that will, for the most part, remain unknown to the world.

Creating a good story requires a flow of creativity. And how does one commit so much energy into a project that might never meet success? It’s hard to explain, but many writers do so every day.

What motivates a writer to spend their time and talents on something that may bear little fruit? Author Isaac Asimov said it well when he stated: “I write for the same reason I breathe – because if I didn’t I would die.

Some writers explain that the stories they write are stories that first formed in their minds and gave them no rest until after they were poured out on paper; only, of course, to be replaced with a new story after the one was written. Some people simply write for themselves, while others prefer to share their works with others.

Most writers don’t even aspire to be famous, and they strongly reflect what Francois felt when he wrote: “Each of us is like a desert, and a literary work is like a cry from the desert, or like a pigeon let loose with a message in its claws, or like a bottle thrown into the sea.” All these writers want is to be heard, if only by one person.

When there is a drive to say something important it is also important to have some hope that your words were ‘heard’ by someone who was encouraged or challenged by those words.

For some writers, joy in writing is attained when one reaches the end of the story. Famous novelist Tom Clancy once said that success in writing is to achieve a finished book, a stack of papers filled with words that all together tell a story. If you get to that point, he said, you have achieved success.

Most writers do not begin writing with the hope of becoming incredibly wealthy. They begin because they often have no choice. Generally speaking, if one is to consider the amount of money writers make, and the tremendous amount of work they put in, they only get paid minimum wage, but they are more than happy to continue on that path.

For many writers this is success enough.

Publishing a book of fiction is an art that includes knowing how to maneuver the publishing process to your advantage. When approaching publishers to have your fiction book approved, you need hard work, determination and a bit of good luck.

Publishing a book of fiction is an art that includes knowing how to maneuver the publishing process to your advantage. When approaching publishers to have your fiction book approved, you need hard work, determination and a bit of good luck.

Everyone wants their works of fiction sold in bookstores, but this can only be done if you are familiar with the steps in submitting your manuscript. But it’s easier to submit a fiction proposal to a publishing house than a work of non-fiction because the fiction must be a finished product.

However, the sad truth is that most major publishing companies won’t give you the time of day unless you have an agent submitting it for you. These companies have busy schedules to adhere to and don’t have enough staff to take care of all the submissions.

Of course, you will need to consider agent’s fees, which can be deducted from your total sales, but here’s the thing – they know what’s best for you, given their extensive experience in the business and familiarity with publishing people.

If you want to hire an agent to help you publish your work of fiction, you can select from online lists, or from a “Writer’s Market” listing that contains the most updated agent listings.

Always include a cover letter together with the manuscript when you send it to the agent – he or she needs to know more about you, of course. Together with these, also include a two-page synopsis of your fiction work – no more than two pages, and keep it as simple as possible and free of any typographical or spelling errors that could turn off any person in the publishing business.

Your best friend is your ability to research – if you need help submitting your work, there are many guide books you can read up on, both in traditional and e-book format. Guides also exist that can help you write an effective synopsis.

If you’re submitting a manuscript to a publishing house, be sure to send a query letter first. Most publishers have guidelines for the fiction they’re interested in, and they can be found online or requested by snail mail. These guidelines are there for a reason, so be sure to follow them or risk having your book ignored by the publisher.

Competition in the fiction publishing industry is fierce, but if you have a great story to tell and have written it well, don’t be afraid to present it. You will have a better chance of getting your work published if you show enthusiasm and a positive attitude.

Do you love to write? Can you magically make a written page come to life? If you enjoy writing, and you have talent for it, there is no reason why you shouldn’t start earning an income as a freelance writer. You may want to consider freelance writing as a way to make a good living from home.

The work of a freelance writer is varied, and they can write content for magazines, newspapers, websites and even e-books.

Ready to get started?

Before you go looking for freelance jobs, you should build up a portfolio of articles. You can write for your own website or blog, offer to write free articles for friends, or contact your local paper about writing a column for them. Make sure you also prepare a list of references your new client can contact if they wish to check on things.

How do you find markets to write for?

At this point, it is time to figure out strategies to secure clients. One option is to go to a big freelance site such as elance, and put a bid on a project. Consider starting a website to display your work, your contact information, and also enough personal information to let your client know what are of expertise you most likely fit in with. Think about the possibility of adding a blog to your site. A blog gives you the chance to psot articles, tidbits, and to interact with readers.

Networking could be a good way to find work. If you can think of anyone you know – former colleagues, clients, friends, family or even your old boss – that might need something written up, don’t hesitate to call them. Once you have set up even a small client base, asking for referrals is your next step. Are there any good freelancers in your circle of acquaintances? Ask them for advice on getting started and spend some time with them. They may refer clients to you that they don’t have time for. Do the same for other freelancers if you are contacted with a project you can’t handle.

Lots of magazines publish content that comes from freelancers. Create a list of editors and their contact information, so that you can pitch stories to them regularly. It can be tough to get a foot in the door with magazines, but once you start getting published it will become easier and in many cases more lucrative.

How much money will you earn?

The size and complexity of the project usually determine how much you will get paid for it. You could get paid as little as $5 for a small article that doesn’t require much effort, and several hundreds of dollars for more complex projects such as ebooks.

If you love writing about a variety of topics, I encourage you to give freelance writing a try. It’s a great way to do what you love and stay home with the kids at the same time. The main key to becoming a successful freelance writer is to practice writing all the time, whether you get paid for it or not.

Experienced fiction writers have come to accept that they probably won’t end up millionaires by writing books – and may even have a greater chance of winning the lottery. It’s just not realistic to think that you may become as rich and famous as Tom Clancy.

The sad fact is, if you’re planning to go the traditional route and have a major publishing house take care of your work, your chances of earning serious cash are next to zero. So if you’re starting out in the publishing business, maybe using methods like print on demand would give you a better chance of financial success.

If you get lucky and a major publishing house thinks your work is worth publishing, then you can expect an advance based on the supposed predictions of what your book would earn. This can range anywhere from a few thousand dollars if you’re starting out, or millions of dollars if your name happens to be Stephenie Meyer or Neil Gaiman.

Regardless of how the book actually fares, the advance will be yours to keep and use any way you want. Your advance would then be subtracted from your future royalties once your book has been out for a few weeks and is starting to earn.

Royalty percentages usually fall within the 4 to 8 percent range. Once the advance has been deducted from your future royalties, you will receive the royalty percentage moving forward on every book you sell.

Most writers are happy if they receive a total of $50,000 on their first book. Your overall sales would be the determining factor when negotiating for another book with the publishing house.

If you decide to use POD (print on demand) to publish your works, you will receive profits per sale rather than based on royalty percentages. A larger amount of profits occurs if the sales are generated from the POD service’s web site. The author can also purchase a number of the books from the web site and market them himself.

Another way to profit from publishing fiction is to sell it as an ebook online. It’s a high risk, high reward thing, because you can easily earn 100% profit from every sale – provided you know how the online marketing process works.

You can read up on several sources online if you wish to find out more about selling e-books. Selling books online is becoming an increasingly popular way to self-publish all types of writing.

Before you sell your works and hope for a healthy profit, there is one thing you need to do, and that is to research, research, research. It doesn’t matter if you do so on the Internet, buy books, or go to the library – there’s a wealth of information that can help you on your quest to becoming a successful writer.

New voice talents may not have experienced this yet. But you can count on it happening!

New voice talents may not have experienced this yet. But you can count on it happening!

At some point, you may get called in to read a script by a repeat client who you think you know. You will walk in anticipating a script on a familiar subject matter only to be blown away by a left field commercial — one that might not jive with your personal views.

What do you do when you’re asked to voice a part you aren’t comfortable reading for moral reasons?

Knowing how to handle the voice jobs you don’t feel good about reading will help you deliver the goods. Handling the situation gracefully will prevent you from burning bridges, and your clients will respect your professionalism in the long run.

Voice Coach & Producer Mel Allen was once hired to voice a “feel good” script about the company’s commitment to the environment. Mel says:

“I knew they had recently been fined by the EPA for illegal dumping, and I was handed the script in the studio. It was a two-minute narration piece that I wasn’t comfortable reading, but I didn’t feel like I could back out. At that point, I had to weigh which was more important — my word that I would do the job (even though I hadn’t seen the script beforehand) or my moral disagreement with the piece.”

So, what did he do? “I completed the project for them, but after I finished it I told the producer that I wouldn’t voice a project like that in the future.”

The producer admitted they were not comfortable with the script either, and they respected his honesty. Because of the way he handled the situation, Mel actually got more work from them in the future — work he felt comfortable voicing, that is.

What’s more is that Mel says, “I learned from this experience, and since then I have never given full commitment to a project without seeing the script first.”

If you have this similar experience, try getting into character first. Become the person who would voice this script with conviction, even if it’s hard. There are hundreds of voice talent who will never become voice actors. Figuring out which describes you will only come in time.

A lot of aspects of business are done on the Internet, and publishing is not an exception to this rule. In the light of this, POD, or Print on Demand, is a form of technology you may want to consider if you wish to have your works of fiction published.

Print on demand makes it possible for a complete book to be printed and bound in an extremely short amount of time. Let’s face it – conventional printing and binding can be very wasteful and expensive in the long run.

Your book can be marketed in any one of the many online publishing services on the Internet if you choose to go the POD route when publishing your own fiction book. Aside from printing and binding, these services can have your book (or books) conveniently listed on the likes of Amazon or other online book shopping sites.

Of course, these services don’t come without a fee for having your fiction book marketed. Spelling checks are usually a part of their editing process, but the actual editing, formatting and mastering are not included in their services.

POD is the perfect solution for any rookie author wanting to have his/her fiction published. Another advantage is not having to have your book approved by editors or to sign any deals with publishing firms.

A lot of academic institutions are using POD as a way to cut down on the costs of printing and binding books, as well as storing unused copies of published books. Even non-fiction writers are jumping on the POD bandwagon, using this to cut down on costs and save time on getting their books published.

POD, though, is different from your usual self-publishing service. Self-publishing services, for instance, give you as the writer full control over the publishing process, and that would include pricing your book and designing the cover. If you choose POD, you’re limited to the publisher’s offering of services.

If you want to do some research on POD, there are several sites you can visit so you can take a look at their services and how exactly they work. They include, BookSurge, iUniverse, Xlibris and Blurb.

If you find it too stressful to go the traditional route and go with traditional publishers, then print on demand is something you should consider. Many writers who have failed in the traditional route have made it through POD, so why don’t you try it out for yourself to see what it offers?

All you need for creative writing is a story that people want to read, a good imagination, and a pen and paper. Although that may not sound difficult, creative writing can be a really tough job.

All you need for creative writing is a story that people want to read, a good imagination, and a pen and paper. Although that may not sound difficult, creative writing can be a really tough job.

With good imagination, you can really capture your audience’s minds and keep them reading your work. However, you have to know that a good imagination is simply not enough when you are writing. You also need to consider quite a few things first before you start writing.

Choose your environment carefully when you start writing. Many well known authors struggle to start a new writing project, and there’s no reason to believe that you won’t have a similar problem. Choose a peaceful room in your home, a chair that offers good support, comfortable clothes, daylight or good overhead lighting, and music that will help you be creative. The right environment can be a great help in producing effective writing.

You will also need to have a writing schedule. You have to remember that nothing can be more frustrating when writing when someone is always barging in your writing time. You need to know when you can write in order to avoid interruptions from friends, family, co-workers or whomever that may interrupt you when you are writing. You have to concentrate on writing so you have to turn off anything that will interrupt you. Consider diverting all calls to a machine, turn off your pager, mobile phones, PDA and others that may interrupt you. Remember that you will be in another world in creative writing; you have to get out of the real world.

It is recommended that you should write when you are at your mental best or when you are not tired. However, some of the best novels were written on hours that would normally be your bedtime, try and write during these hours and determine if it will indeed affect your writing positively. If it doesn’t, you should stick to your regular schedule where your mental state is at its prime.

Writing about different characters requires that you put yourself in their shoes. Describing their behavior, the way they talk and think is best done by imagining that you are that person. Your character needs a well-rounded personality that readers can relate to and believe in.

Creative writing can be difficult, and your writing tools can help to ease the tension of writing for hours on end. A desktop computer is usually easier to work with, and a large flat screen monitor will help avoid eye strain. If you write by hand, make sure your writing implement is comfortable to work with. Software programs are available to help you write effectively.
